We had our annual choir "retreat" this weekend at our church to get ready for our upcoming Christmas concert. This is the latest we've had the retreat since I've been at the church. Usually it's in September, but due to scheduling conflicts we had to move it later this year. It went very well and we got a lot of rehearsal time in. We also interspersed testimonies of new choir members throughout the day, had a fabulous lunch (Thanks, Becky!), and had a few fun activities.
One of those activities was the (now-infamous) "Push the Ball with the Banana" game. Let me just say that if you are looking for an ice breaker activity for a large group of people, THIS IS IT! The basic gist is that it's a relay race where you have a banana tied to a string hanging from your waist and you have to use the banana (NO HANDS) to push a ping-pong ball a specified distance. (More details can be found here.). The site says this game is "good for laughs." Uh, yeah, I'd say so. It's also good for blackmail pictures! (Not that I'd ever use them for evil, of course....) Here are a few pictures demonstrating the various techniques used.
As you can see, it was quite a fun game and helped us get through the afternoon "slump." I'm definitely keeping this in my party repertoire for future events. Oh, and in case you're wondering, the Sopranos won the game and were dubbed the "top bananas."
